Planting the first steps for my sponsored walking challenge.

Since curating this site, I have wanted to pursue a new challenge but didn't know quite what to look for. I spent many gloomy days, beside myself, vexed on this ambition to push myself far greater than in previous years. I expect others like me have also experienced this annoyance, this hideous notion to do better. It comes to us all but is a necessary torment, warning us not to incessantly indulge but to instead go out there and kick ass.

It was when I recently picked up a Saturday Job at Cotswold Outdoors that one idea struck me. Whilst eying a plethora of maps and travel books, I soon spotted the newest version of the Two Moors Way. Then when I was due to my lunch break, I sat down and began inspecting the 102-mile route. The next thought that popped into my mind was, 'I'd better make this my first purchase on Cotswold staff discount'.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the 2MW, begin by imagining a monks trail connecting south Devon (starting a Ivybridge) to north Devon (ending at Lynmouth); spanning across the semi rural landscape of Exmoor and Dartmoor. Though in this case the term 'trail' varies. Along the way you will experience a considerable variation of terrain from beastly elephant grass to archaic mining routes, (otherwise known as the M5 for you Ten Tors folk).

So what's my plan of Attack?

My ambition is to start the walk during the Easter period, giving me sufficient daylight whilst not compromising on any exams. Hopefully reaching my destination within a 48hr window.

Some of my old scouting pals will be accompanying me along the journey. I'm, going to try to make this as non-taxing as possible. There will be no surrendering to the comfort of a Dartmoor Inn. Instead, a support car will provide us with some food and drinks at different intervals along the way.

Next Steps:

>Practicing night navigation to continue walking after Dark.

>Gaining sponsors and spreading awareness of British Exploring Society.

>Walking parts of the root to gage pacing and resistance

>Working out the logistics of rest stops.

If you have any comments, queries or suggestions please feel free to smash that contact button or even better share my endeavour with friends who might fancy setting up a sponsored challenge initiative.

Thank you all for your continued support,

Tom
